5 ways to get your gym & healthy eating MOTIVATION back!

Look, I understand; sometimes it's hard to get motivated to go the gym. There are many excuses you can use to keep yourself out of the gym and sitting on the sofa at home. After a couple of weeks of this, you will start beating yourself up about not going to the gym, so you head back, only for the same cycle to repeat itself. Why does this happen? Why does your burst of motivation stop as quickly as it began? Well, it's probably because of excuses.


The only way to achieve the goals that you want to achieve at the gym is consistency. Consistency is the key to accomplishing anything and excuses kill consistency.


1. Not Seeing The Results

This is soul destroying. You get up early, get yourself down to the gym every day for a week or a month and then nothing! Nothing to show for all those early mornings and hard work other than wasted time. If you aren’t seeing the results you want, don’t look to the scales for inspiration to keep going, look in the mirror. Take photos of yourself each day and then go back and look at them a month of so later. You might not be showing any signs of weight loss on the scales, but those hips don’t lie! 


2. Getting Bored

A lot of people find working out and going to the gym boring. However, if you actually ask those people what bores them, typically it is the type of training they are doing, yeah, some training is boring! Not all exercise can be fun, but is it the exercise you find boring or is it the fact you aren’t seeing results? Look, no one likes lifting dumbbells because of the motion their arm is making, they enjoy it because they get a buzz when they have broken a personal best or from seeing the muscle appear. Try setting yourself some goals, start with a big goal and then break it down into smaller ones. 


3. Not Knowing What To Do

You’ve got your gym clothes ready; you’re pumped to get back to the gym and then you arrive and have no idea what to do! This is pretty common, you know you want to get fit, you may even know where you want to lose the extra weight from, but you have no idea how to achieve it. This will mean that you end up just doing a circuit of the gym equipment and getting bored.

4. Not Knowing Why You Are Doing It

To put it bluntly, “I just want to lose some weight” isn’t enough of a reason to keep you going to the gym. That is such a broad statement that it doesn’t answer the question enough. Your why is hugely important. On the good days, your why could easily be you just want to lose a bit of weight. It is on the bad days, the dark days, that this statement really needs to kick you up the butt. Really think about why you are going to the gym, is it because you want to play with your kids for longer, raise money running for charity, get into your wedding dress? Whatever the reason is, it has to be something that is going to drag you kicking and screaming to the gym on the days where you just want to stay in bed.


5. Being Too Busy

 I get it; we're all busy people, this is a common excuse (yes, it is an excuse) for anything people don’t want to do. Look back over this list, if you have ever felt one of the things on this list then sure, there are plenty of other, more important, things that you could be spending your time on. Spending hours and hours at the gym and not seeing any results is really annoying. But, you don’t have to spend your whole life in the gym. In fact, the results that I’m always posting on my Facebook page usually only takes my clients 4-5 hours a week of exercise to achieve.
